The Formula for Calculating Final GPA

The standard formula for a weighted GPA is the sum of all quality points divided by the total number of credits attempted. The calculation follows this structure:

$$GPA = \frac{\sum (Grade Points \times Credits)}{\sum Credits}$$

For example, if you have an 'A' (4.0) in a 3-credit math class and a 'B' (3.0) in a 2-credit history class, your total quality points would be $(4.0 \times 3) + (3.0 \times 2) = 18$. Dividing this by the 5 total credits results in a GPA of 3.60.

Example of Final Semester GPA calculation

Consider a student with the following semester load:

• English 101: 3 Credits, Grade: A- (3.7)
• Biology: 4 Credits, Grade: B+ (3.3)
• Calculus: 4 Credits, Grade: A (4.0)

In this case, the student earns $(3 \times 3.7) + (4 \times 3.3) + (4 \times 4.0) = 11.1 + 13.2 + 16.0 = 40.3$ total points. Divided by 11 credits, the Semester GPA is 3.66.
