The core formula uses the solar elevation angle. Pluto Time occurs when the Sun's elevation is approximately -2.0° below the horizon (civil twilight zone).
The solar declination, hour angle, and altitude are calculated as:
- Solar Declination (d): Based on the day of the year using the Spencer equation.
- Hour Angle (H): The angle corresponding to a solar altitude of -2°, derived from: cos(H) = (sin(altitude) - sin(lat)×sin(d)) / (cos(lat)×cos(d))
- Pluto Time = Solar Noon ± H (converted to local time)
